Fitted, not fitted-out

Three rooms, three jobs: a bedroom that actually goes dark, a patio that earns its keep in a south-easter, and the hardware that makes both possible.

How we specify for Sunningdale

Same suburb, two different window problems

Sunningdale grew in phases — established stands with mature gardens between Parklands and Sandown Road, then newer HOA-governed phases like Sunningdale Twelve, Maple Creek and the Green Star-rated Northridge Coastal Estate. Older aluminium-framed windows and brand-new floor-to-ceiling stacking doors sit a few streets apart, and each wants a different answer.

HOA colour rules, in plain language

Garden Cities' Sunningdale architectural guides are specific: awnings must be plain and colour-matched to the house, no stripes. Patio blinds are allowed but can't be striped, can't sit darker than your house's base colour, and can't be fixed in place permanently — some phase guides discourage external drop-down blinds on patios altogether, in favour of the colour-matched awning. We colour-match every exterior product to your house tone as standard, and flag anything your specific phase's guide restricts before we quote.

01

Orientation & the view

Sliding and stacking doors facing the garden pick up strong low-angle sun morning and late afternoon — the same glass that frames the Table Mountain view across the bay lets the glare in with it. Sunscreen mesh keeps the view; blockout goes where the room needs real dark.

02

The Cape Doctor

Blaauwberg's summer south-easter blows October to March, often 15–25 knots — the same wind that makes Big Bay a kitesurfing beach a few streets over. Anything mounted outside — awnings, roller shutters, zip screens — is specified wind-rated, and motorised lines get an auto-retract wind sensor as standard advice, not an upsell.

03

Salt air off Table Bay

Windy days carry salt inland from the bay even here, off the immediate beachfront. Exterior hardware is specified in powder-coated aluminium with sealed cassettes, the same standard we use on the Blouberg coastline itself.

04

Estate rules & house colour

Every Sunningdale HOA phase has its own architectural guide. We check yours before quoting exterior products, and colour-match fabric and housings to your home so the finished job reads as part of the house, not an addition to it.

About this service

What we are, and how a job is run

Sunningdale Blinds is a made-to-measure shading service for Sunningdale and the Blaauwberg coast around it — Bloubergstrand, Big Bay, Sunset Beach and Melkbosstrand. Roller blinds, day and night blinds, cellular honeycomb blinds and folding-arm awnings are each produced to whatever your own openings measure. On new-build sliding doors that matters more than it sounds, because a blind sized to the nearest common width is exactly what leaves a bright seam down the side of a wide slider.

No part of the sequence shifts from one house to the next. First comes your enquiry, sent on the form or through the chat; one of our expert consultants will contact you shortly and a free in-home measure gets booked. On the visit each opening is measured, and fabric, openness and control are decided room by room, weighed against how much sun and wind each opening really takes, alongside whatever colour guidance your HOA works to. A written quote follows, itemised per window. With your go-ahead the order is manufactured to those figures, then fitted, squared up and demonstrated so nobody is left guessing how it works.

The only use we make of your details is arranging the call-back itself, under POPIA. They are never passed on, never sold and never added to a list.

Questions

Straight answers before you book

Do you fit blinds in both the older Sunningdale stands and the newer HOA phases?

Yes. We fit older aluminium-framed windows in the established streets between Parklands and Sandown Road just as often as the floor-to-ceiling stacking doors in newer phases like Sunningdale Twelve or Northridge Coastal Estate. The measure and quote process is identical either way.

What products handle the Cape Doctor best?

For anything mounted outside — awnings, roller shutters, zip screens — we specify wind-rated hardware and recommend a motor with a wind sensor for auto-retract on gusty days. Indoors, it's not a factor; any of our interior blinds are unaffected by wind.

Will my awning match my HOA's colour rules?

We colour-match awning fabric to your house's base colour as standard, and check your specific phase's architectural guide before quoting — Sunningdale's HOA guides generally require a plain, unstriped awning in the house colour, and we build to that brief.

Do you sell security shutters?

Our roller shutters are a shading product — sun, heat and glare control on the outside of the glass, not a security-rated system. If you need security-rated shutters specifically, ask us and we'll point you in the right direction; it's a different product to what we install.

Are your blinds child-safe?

Yes — chain tensioners, cordless and motorised options are standard, not an upsell. We'll talk through the safest option for any room with young children during the in-home measure.

How does the free measure and quote process work?

You enquire, we book a convenient time to measure every window on site, and you receive a written, itemised quote before anything is ordered. Nothing is fitted until you've approved the quote.
