Blinds & Awnings in Sunset Beach
A quieter stretch of coast between Bloubergstrand and Milnerton, built for deck living — and for the wind that comes with the view.
A different kind of beachfront
Sunset Beach sits between the density of Bloubergstrand and Big Bay and the older village grain further up the coast — older beach houses sit beside newer rebuilds, most of them built around a deck that faces the water rather than a small enclosed patio. It's the reason the fitted awning turns up so often in this stretch: a deck only earns its keep if something's controlling the sun and wind over it.
Deck living, specified properly
A folding-arm awning over a west-facing deck stops the low, late-day sun that a house with unobstructed sea views takes full force of, and retracts on demand rather than permanently shading the room behind it. Because these homes tend to be individually owned rather than governed by a single estate HOA, colour and style choices are more flexible than in a newer managed development — the constraint here is wind, not a committee.
Wind rating isn't optional
The same south-easter that defines the whole Blaauwberg coast reaches Sunset Beach's open decks with very little to slow it down. Every awning we fit here is wind-rated to its position, and we recommend a motor with an auto-retract wind sensor as standard, not an upsell — an awning caught open in a strong gust doesn't survive it.
